Inspired by Japanese ukiyo-e printmaking and rooted in today's tattoo culture, 36 Ghosts is a brand/platform that blurs the line between art and fashion. The name is an allusion to the ukiyo-e print series "New Forms of 36 Ghosts" by the genre's last great master, Tsukioka Yoshitoshi.
Each piece/print is a collaboration between world-class artists from across the globe and clothing manufacturers in the United States and overseas. From the paintings to the prints, from the fabric to the final stitch, every 36 Ghosts garment is a work of art that reflects the energy of those who created it and those who wear it.
Following the collaborative tradition of Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock printing, artists are commissioned for each individual project and receive royalties for their part in the production process. All artwork is designed exclusively for 36 Ghosts in limited editions and tailored to each garment. 36 Ghosts provides artists with a platform for maximum exposure by bringing their art to the ultimate gallery: the streets.
